Robert’s American Grille

By James | April 27, 2008

Since coming to the Caribbean, I’ve fallen in love with the spiny lobster they serve here. I was used to the classic Maine lobster, but after tasting the sweet and tender meat of a spiny, there was no going back. Looking for a good lobster dinner, I was directed to Robert’s American Grille in the Elysian Beach Resort, Cowpet Bay, East End.

The restaurant has a nice open feel with indoor and outdoor seating only a few steps from the beach. Diners can expect to feel a gentle island breeze whether they sit inside or out. There’s an artist displaying her work for sale in a back room behind the bar.

For an appetizer I went with a classic standard, the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were perfectly cleaned and cooked, making them sweet and tender. The dip was just as good and the right amount, no one likes to run out before they are done.

The entrée was the 1.5# stuffed half-lobster with baked potato and green beans. The presentation was perfectly done with the lobster curling around plate. The crab meat and lobster stuffing was excellent, just the right amount of spice to leave the taste of the meats intact. The tail meat was just as sweet and tender as can be, it almost melts in your mouth. The baked potato came with a generous portion of butter and sour cream, just the way I like it. The potato was well cooked, just the right amount of moisture left with no uncooked parts. I didn’t care for the green beans, but I must admit I am not a fan of them to start with so I am a little biased.

For desert I had the Ice Cream Chocolate Éclair. Yes, it’s as good as it sounds! This desert is absolutely sinful with it’s tasty mix of chocolate fudge on top of an éclair pastry that’s been split and filled with ice cream. This is all presented beautifully on a plate dressed with a strawberry sauce, a few strawberry slices and fresh blackberries.

The service was perfect and on time, our waiter was attentive and kept our glasses full.

Overall, I would have to say I had a great time and will definitely return.
