By James | September 2, 2008
Living in the tropics you learn to watch the weather carefully. Along with needing to know when the best time is to hit the beach or head out sailing, you need to watch out for hurricanes. The hurricane season runs from June to November with it peaking in September.
There are a number of great online resources for weather and hurricane tracking. Here are some of my favorites: Read the rest of this entry »

Moving to St. Thomas
By James | August 26, 2008
I’ve recently moved to Saint Thomas and it’s been a bit of an adventure. There are a number of things that make a move to the islands different than usual and it’s not just the water.
Since there are no roads or rails to the islands from the mainland, there are only two ways remaining to get things to the island. There is by air which is fast and very expensive and there is by ship which is very slow and not as expensive.

Robert’s American Grille
By James | April 27, 2008
Since coming to the Caribbean, I’ve fallen in love with the spiny lobster they serve here. I was used to the classic Maine lobster, but after tasting the sweet and tender meat of a spiny, there was no going back. Looking for a good lobster dinner, I was directed to Robert’s American Grille in the Elysian Beach Resort, Cowpet Bay, East End.

Cruise Travel for 2008 Should Have Great Deals
By James | January 31, 2008
The US economy might be in the tank, but the cruise market should be safe since the average customer of the industry isn’t being hit hard yet. According to an article on CNN about Cruise Trends for 2008, there should be some great deals showing up as cruise lines have to drop initial price offerings giving consumers a chance to save money if they have flexible vacation plans.
The big thing for cruise consumers is shore excursions and this year is going to provide a good opportunity for the locals to make a living from the tourism industry.
Looks like 2008 will be a great year to visit the Virgin Islands on your favorite cruise line!
Cheers!

Danes Rediscovering Saint Thomas, US Virgin Islands
By James | January 10, 2008
There’s an article over in CNN’s Travel section about Danish citizens making Saint Thomas a tourist destination. St. Thomas and the rest of the US Virgin Islands once belonged to Denmark but the US purchased them in WWI to keep the Germans out.
